Our ancestors live on in us as us. We need not feel that we do not know how to address them because we are their address.

Our former selves were our formers, by virtue of whom we hold certain truths to be self evident, however chimerical they might be seen to be from another point of view. It is for this reason that we must accept the work of being our formers’ reformers, even reframers. This tension of succession is central to creativity.

The presence of the past is always changing.
